CANADA-ONTARIO JOB GRANT
JobStart can assist employers to invest in their workforce through the Canada-Ontario Job Grant (C-OJG), which is a government funded program directed to reimburse part of the cost of training to existing and/or new employees. The objective of the funding is to encourage job creation, increase job quality and to provide new skills that can support job advancement opportunities for current employees.
By sharing the cost of the training, employers have the opportunity to update or upgrade the capabilities of their staff and to a greater role when addressing their workforce development needs.
Quick Facts:

C-OJG provides up to $10,000 of grant reimbursement per a current employee taking a course

Eligible employers are reimbursed up to 50% of the total cost; and, small businesses reimbursed up to 5-sixths of the training costs

Employers have freedom to select the employees to be trained, type of training and training provider

Training must be delivered by an eligible training provider
Thing to Remember
Employers must understand that funding is not guaranteed. While all eligible applications are reviewed, priority is given based on a tiered system of conditions that provides top priority to Tier 1 applications.
Eligible Expenses
Expenses such as: Tuition and related fees; Textbooks, software and other required materials; Travel costs and Mandatory student fees are eligible for funding.
Employer Responsibilities
Employers are responsible for: Identifying skills gaps and the type of training that will address those gaps; Identifying the individuals to be trained; Providing a conditional job offer (or committing to have a job) for new employees upon completion of training; and, Paying the cost of training in full.
Training Facts
In order to be eligible for C-OJG funding, the training selected by the employer must be: Less than one year in duration; Offered in Ontario by an eligible third-party trainer; Scheduled to begin after the C-OJG application is approved; Designed for and directed to employees; Training that is not legally required due to law, regulation or policy. Additionally, the funding is not applicable to Apprenticeship training.
